Some of the top musicians from the San Francisco, Santa Cruz and Monterey areas gather to celebrate the musical legacy of the great Duke Ellington and his orchestra. Scheduled performers include: vocalists Kotomi Abe, Julie Capili and Lee Durley; pianists Phillip Crawford and Eric Shifrin; guitarist Gino Raugi; bassist Heath Proskin; flautist Kenny Stahl; saxophone player Paul Tarantino; and drummer Andy Weis. Proceeds from the concert will be donated to UNICEF (the United Nations Children's Fund) to support programs for children in Afghanistan. Eight years after a U.S.-led invasion ousted the Taliban from power in Afghanistan, the war-ravaged state is the most dangerous place in the world for a child to be born.
